Is this you?
On the outside, your life looks pretty good. You’ve got a good job, a decent roof over your head, and you might even be keeping up with all of life’s expectations of you.
On the inside, however, things feel quite different. You feel overwhelmed, burnt out, and like you’re only just keeping up with life’s demands. You have good moments, but they feel few and far between. You’ve reached a point where going through the motions isn’t as fulfilling as you expected.
You want more from your life. More peace. More joy. You want to slow down enough to actually enjoy the things you’ve been working so hard for, instead of just about showing up to them.
What’s really going on (and why this happens)
Our brains and nervous systems play a huge role in this experience.
Your brain is designed to protect you and keep you alive. Its main focus is survival, asking “am I safe?” and it is constantly scanning for potential threats. The part of the brain responsible for this is the amygdala, which you might know as the centre of the fight, flight, freeze or fawn response.
Alongside your past experiences and what’s currently going on in your life, this shapes your automatic responses and your default way of being. Over time, this can leave you feeling stuck in stress or overwhelm, even when things look “fine” on the surface.
The good news is, this can be changed.
How we work with this in hypnotherapy
Modern life is pretty stress-inducing. We have information coming at us from all angles, alongside expectations, responsibilities and pressure to live a certain kind of life.
Hypnotherapy works with stress, anxiety and overwhelm in a few key ways. First, we introduce simple tools to support sleep and relaxation. These help lower your stress levels, giving you more capacity to deal with life’s challenges in the first place.
From there, we begin working on gently rewiring the brain. We focus on the “3 Ps”, integrating more positive activities, interactions and patterns of thinking into your life, while also building a clear picture of how you want things to be.
Once that picture is clear, we break it down into tiny, manageable steps that move you forward.
Then we get to the good bit. Each session ends with hypnosis. This is where I guide you into a relaxed, focused state, allowing your mind to do this work in an effortless, calming way. It’s a chance for your mind to almost exhale, while beginning to picture a life that feels more easeful, joyful and calm.
